Hello Bloggers!! I'm trying to get settled after a wonderful trip to Virginia. We met up with some dear old friends from college - and we had the BEST time! We have all been friends since the early 80's - and we all just pick right up where we left off. So awesome!
Travel always brings lots of interesting observations. Allow me to share of few with you....
First, I am wondering when it became acceptable to wear pajamas on an airplane. Seriously! I saw so many people in their pj bottoms with a t-shirt. There were two on our 3 hour flight. I don't expect folks to wear a tuxedo, mind you, but at least wash your face and put on some damn clothes!!!
Next, when did airlines start worrying about hurt feelings and stop worrying about safety?? We flew on one of those express jets. I'm guessing they seat around 60 people. One aisle, and not roomy in any sense of the word. They seated an extremely ginormous man in the exit row. If there had been an emergency, everyone would have been trapped by not being able to get to the exit around him, or he would get stuck in the hole over the wing. There was NO WAY this man was going to fit through that little hole.
So I go up front and ask the flight attendant to move him for safety reasons. She says she can't "discriminate." I'm like, "This is not discrimination, this is about safety. Period." She says there's nothing she can do.
Thankfully, we had a uneventful flight. But I am still in shock that the airlines are now more interested in hurt feelings than safety.
There is one aisle on these express jets. A young girl around say 3 or 4, walked the aisle of the plane almost the entire flight. Again, safety here - what if there had been turbulence as the same airline experienced on Monday? That little girl would have been toast. It still amazes me how I can't hold a bag or a cup of ice during take off and landing, yet one can hold a live human being on their lap.
And finally, my personal favorite - People putting their seats back in coach. There's barely enough room for me to cross my legs(I'm 5'8") and it seems like the airline crams as many seats as possible into those planes. I remember flying in college and being able to stretch out my legs. Not now. I mean, I understand - more passengers = more revenue. But both ways I was seated in the seat behind the exit row. So the persons in front of me had mega leg room. And back goes their seat into my face. On the way home, the lady in front of me had her seat back and leaned forward to work on her lap top on her tray table most of the flight. WTF???
Bottom line: It's uncomfortable for everyone. But WHY would anyone put their seat back and make a fellow passenger more uncomfortable???
So there! I know it sounds bitchy, but I just HATE being crammed and uncomfortable. Flying is just a hassle. But it's worth it to get where you're going!!!

13 Talk to Momma!:
I agree 100% on everything. I love to fly, but hate the experience as I always come home and get sick. It's either going or coming home, anyway. The germs get me. People cough and don't cover their mouth, sneeze and just bug the dogsnot out of me wanting to talk.
Ummm... helllo... It's 6:00 am and I'm leaving Vegas... do ya really think I want to talk about how much money I won/lost? Piss off already.
Oh..I love me some Momma rant! he he
Amen Momma! Glad you had a blast - old friends are the best friends...they know everything about ya & still love ya! ;) Agree with JFab- recirculated air sucks (for germs & Farts!!! LOL!)
Glad you are home, we missed you! Also glad that you had a blast. I agree with all of your points... People need to be considerate. I am 5'7" and cannot get comfortable on a plane. But do I put my seat back and inconvience everyone else? No, I don't. People suck!
Some people are so inconsiderate, for shizzle. The person in front of me has put their seat back on EVERY flight I've been on when holding a child in my lap...because holding a fussy, wiggly baby isn't uncomfortable enough, let's minimize my already pea-sized personal space. Argh! And slippers in public, wth? Because flip-flops are too formal? Whoops, your rant has suddenly become my rant. Sorry!!
http://www.gadgetduck.com/goods/kneedefender.html These are great. The problem is I keep forgetting to take them and leave them on the plane.
The Knee Defender is pretty cool...but check with your airline...some of them ban the things and are really unpleasant about them.
I am with you!
What is with people.
I am with ya on the PJ thing. I see too many people wearing their night-pants and slippers in public as it is! Yuck. I traveled before with my kids when under 2, and will travel with One Baby in January - I never let go of my child the WHOLE flight. I usually have my baby in a sling, close to my chest!
Glad you had a nice vacation. I haven't been on a plane in almost 30 years and have no plans to change that. :-)
Hate flying and loathe people who wear PJ bottoms as normal attire. I saw a girl in silky bottoms the other day.
Oh P.S. Missed you Momma, loved your pics on Facebook !
Glad you had fun!! Totally agree w/ you about flying.
This may surprise you, but I won't put my seat back because I know its going to be practically in that persons lap..thats me..'Mr Considerate' ;)
On the 'dress code' thing...really..wtf? BUT...I feel the same way regarding church. I don't think one needs to wear a suit or anything, but sheesh...clean up, put on some nicer clothes, and comb your freakin hair. You wouldn't believe some of the attire that I have even seen at weddings!
Oh, how I hate flying! Everything about it is miserable, except landing safely and getting the hell out of the airport ASAP.
